Olympian Signs Up For Eighth Wonder
To mark the start of FA Girls Football Week, the Eighth Wonder programme is delighted to announce Olympic Gold Medallist Charlotte Evans MBE has confirmed she will be attending our kick-off development day for 14-20-year-old girls on Friday 28 October.
As a Kent Sports Trust ambassador, Charlotte will be popping down to Ditton to support the first group of Eighth Wonder girls, giving a fascinating and unique insight into her relationship and career in sport.
Charlotte is a British skier, sighted guide and Paralympian. She won Team GB’s first ever gold at the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games, as guide for visually impaired skier Kelly Gallagher.
Following this Charlotte was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2014 Birthday Honours for services to Paralympic sport.
Ever since, Charlotte has worked within Kent and beyond to celebrate and showcase the positive impact sport can have on anyone’s life and is now an ambassador for one of the county’s leading sports organisations – Kent Sports Trust.
Kent Sports Trust promotes participation in sport across Kent, and Chief Executive Steve Wolfe, has backed Eighth Wonder’s plans to create football’s future female leaders. "I firmly believe that girls and women need positive role models and the Eighth Wonder programme will provide a pathway with mentors that will show the way."
"With the right attitude and opportunities, girls and women should have equal opportunities to fulfil their ambitions in life."This is a view closely shared by Charlotte, who is already looking forward to the opportunity of meeting the girls coming along for the day.
Charlotte says: "Having female role models was in important part in my Paralympic success and it's great to see the Eighth Wonder Programme will provide chances for people that were just like me.""We all need support in our lives and I'm only too pleased to lend my support to what I think is a fantastic initiative."
